It’s almost that time of the year where football and snack lovers can unite, yes I am talking about the Superbowl. If you’re anything like our family the Superbowl isn’t as much about football as it is about the comfort food, snacking and staying up late with friends and family on a Sunday night.
I love a good reason to be festive in any way, so when the Superbowl rolls around you’ll find our kids dressed in football shirts (most likely not the correct teams, but hey- hand me downs!) and our kitchen full of football shaped plates and decorations.
The main dish I make each year is a pot of chili. I love using turkey or chicken, but my husband prefers beef so that’s usually what we go with on the big game night. I’ll add black beans, kidney beans, peppers, onions, tomatoes and corn to it and just let it simmer in the crock pot all evening long. My husband and youngest son love spicy foods, but me and my older son do not, so we compromise and they just add in spices to their individual bowls. We also usually make a homemade pizza each year too. It’s nice to have a few options throughout the night.
Our absolute favorite snack for the game is popchips. If you haven’t already heard of them they are delicious, better for you, all natural ingredient crunchy chip. We love the ridges which come in three flavors: buffalo ranch (spicy), tangy barbecue, and cheddar & sour cream. I love that they are never fried and only contain real ingredients. They are non-GMO which is always important to my family. They are also gluten free and don’t contain any trans fats, cholesterol, or preservatives. You can snack guilt-free at just 130 calories per serving.
One of the most requested snacks in my household is buffalo chicken dip, which if you’ve ever made then you know it is a labor of love and is messy. Thanks to the buffalo ranch flavor I will be free of that recipe this year, my husband seriously loves these chips! You can also skip the mess of BBQ wings and opt for the better for you option- tangy barbecue popchips. They taste just as delicious. I’ve even shared a bag of the cheddar & sour cream popchips with a friend and she immediately drove to the stores looking for more bags. Needless to say, they are addicting.
