It’s hard to believe we’ve been married for 6 years already and it might be even harder to believe that we have never taken a trip without our children! So, naturally when planning our anniversary trip this year we wanted to include the kids and visit the area where we were married- the Poconos. We decided to stay at Camelback Lodge because of their great location and indoor waterpark.
We began our trip with a hike around Camel Top which provides seriously gorgeous views in all directions and has quite a few groomed hiking trails that are perfect for hiking with little ones. We weren’t prepared for how cold and windy it was that day (low 40’s!) and didn’t last too long, plus the kids were excited to hit the Aquatopia waterpark at Camelback and so were we.
After checking into the hotel we immediately headed over to the waterpark and played there for a few hours. It’s a constant 84 degrees and luckily that day, sunny. The roof is transparent which we love because it feels like you’re outside. The kids had a blast playing in the different play areas of the park. There are 13 waterslides and plenty of areas for the little ones to enjoy. Blake’s favorite area was the lazy river and Leif loved the penguin play area with mini slides and swings. If you’re lucky enough to be visiting with a babysitter or older children their is even a swim up bar area you can take advantage of.
Once the boys are bigger we are looking forward to returning and trying out the flow rider ourselves. It looks like so much fun and such a challenge!
After the waterpark we rested up in our room then headed to the arcade. We spent way too much money (isn’t that always the case in a kids arcade?!) but our older son had a blast and won some fun prizes. In addition to the arcade they offer laser tag and bowling.
Later in the evening we walked around the hotel since there is so much to see. We headed to the indoor adventure park and had fun watching other kids rock climb and do the K2 ascent. We were going to play mini golf but quickly remembered how our last mini golf experience was with our 4 year old and decided against it, mostly for the safety of everyone around us, haha!
We always pack our own food when traveling due to food allergies but there are plenty of restaurants and food courts to dine in when visiting Camelback. I did have one of their chocolate chip muffins from the lobby snack bar and it was delicious!
Unfortunately we could only stay 1 night and headed back home the next morning. We look forward to going again this winter to take advantage of their slope side location and 84 degree waterpark and spending more time exploring all that they have to offer.
